Uncertified Officers

Too long didn't read (TLDR)

Officer has never been certified. Submit the Application for Certification (Parts 1, 2 & 3), get approval, then enroll in the 480-hour full-time basic training academy.

Who this applies to

An applicant who has never held a Mississippi law enforcement certification. Before they can be fully certified they must complete the Application for Certification and attend a full-time basic training academy.

Process

  1. Applicant requests a portal account — must be done before Parts 1 & 2 can be submitted. Approval takes 12–24 hours. See portal getting started guide
  2. Applicant submits Parts 1 & 2 — completed through the portal; covers personal information, background disclosures, and acknowledgments
  3. POC completes Part 3 — you receive notification once Parts 1 & 2 are submitted; Part 3 captures agency information and your certification of the applicant's eligibility
  4. Submit to Standards & Training — submit only when all three parts are complete
  5. Coordinate academy enrollment — after application approval, enroll the officer in the 480-hour basic training program

Application must be approved first

Standards & Training must approve the application before the officer begins academy training. Do not coordinate enrollment until you have confirmation of approval.

Academy options

  • Full-time (residential) academy — 480 hours; required for all uncertified officers seeking initial certification
  • Part-time academy — not available for initial certification; used in other training contexts only

Key reminders

  • Applicant must have a portal account before the process can begin
  • Parts 1 & 2 are the applicant's responsibility; Part 3 is yours
  • No academy enrollment until Standards & Training approves the application
