My Application's Approved — Now What?
Too long didn't read (TLDR)
Once Standards & Training approves your application, coordinate with your academy of choice and complete the BLEOST Academy or Refresher Training Packet. That packet stays between you, your agency, and the academy — Standards & Training does not want it and does not require it.
Step 1 — Coordinate with your academy
After receiving approval, contact the academy you intend to attend and arrange enrollment. You are responsible for selecting an academy; Standards & Training does not assign one.
- Full-time basic academy — required for uncertified officers (480 hours)
- Refresher academy — required for officers separated 2–5 years (skills update + 32 law hours) or 5+ years (200-hour refresher)
- Out-of-state equivalency — required if officer did not pass the MS equivalency exam within 120 days
Step 2 — Complete the BLEOST Academy or Refresher Training Packet
Each academy requires applicants to complete a BLEOST Academy or Refresher Training Packet before training begins. This packet covers medical history and the applicant's physical ability to participate in academy training.
This packet does not go to Standards & Training
Standards & Training does not want this packet and does not require it. All information in the packet is strictly between the applicant, the agency, and the academy. Do not submit it through Acadis or mail it to Standards & Training.
Step 3 — Complete training
The officer attends and completes their required academy program. The academy reports completion to Standards & Training directly once training is finished.
If you depart training before successfully completing the course, you are required to get a letter of release from the academy director before attempting to enter any other academy in the state. If you do not have a letter of release from your former academy, you will not be admitted into any other full-time academy in the state.
After training
Once the academy reports successful completion, Standards & Training will update the officer's record in Acadis. Your certification will be issued within 24-48 hours of graduating the academy and is temporary, pending BLEOST board approval.
