Letter of Intent
Your agency's formal notice to the Commission that it intends to pursue accredited status. It is the first step, and it binds no one.
What it does
The Letter of Intent tells the Commission that your agency has reviewed the program’s process, requirements and goals with the appropriate personnel and with your jurisdictional authorities, and is asking the Commission to consider you — knowing what the effort will cost in staff time and in money.
It is not a binding contract. Either party may abandon it at any time. Some agencies choose to sign it at a public meeting, both to make the commitment known and to attract positive attention to it.
Two signatures are required: your Chief or Sheriff, and a representative of your governing authority — typically a mayor or a board president.

On behalf of the [Agency name] of [County] County, Mississippi, I write to notify the Commission of this agency's intent to pursue accredited status under the Mississippi Law Enforcement Accreditation Program.
The program's process, requirements and goals have been reviewed with the appropriate personnel of this agency and with our jurisdictional authorities. Having completed that review, the agency respectfully requests the Commission's consideration, and agrees to commit the personnel time and the financial resources that accreditation requires.
[Accreditation Manager] has been designated as this agency's Accreditation Manager, and will serve as the point of contact for all matters relating to the program. They may be reached at [manager email].
We understand that this Letter of Intent is not a binding contract, and that it may be abandoned at any time by either party.

On paper. Download the letter — it is fillable on screen, with your agency’s details typed into the sentences above — then print it for both signatures and send it to Program Staff at the address on it. Some agencies choose to sign it at a public meeting.
